Cyphrex Interview

FEBURARY 14, 2010
How did you choose your nickname?
I read The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown where Leonardo Da Vinci used a cylinder type mechanical device to protect secrets. I was also interested since a kid in ciphers thus bore the combined as Cyphrex.

How old are you?
27

What city/state do you reside?
Gatesville, TX

What are some of your hobbies?
Blacksmithing, Studying The Art of War by Sun Tzu, Long Range Marksmanship (1000yds), Playing Dangerous Waters, Amateur Radio (KE5KHW; General licensed)

Previous military experience? If so, number of years? highest rank? profession in the armed forces?
Negative, went to college instead earning a Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems with a minor in Criminal Justice in 2005, then a Masters Degree in Information Systems in 2007.

What kind of music do you like to listen to?
Mostly techno, without words so I can focus on the dive or training. (http://di.fm; chillout from listen now)

Who would you say you look up to in the SeaWolves?
Can't pick just one as I have learned from many but I would like to give thanks to three individuals who have been indispensable to my experience: Admiral ClearRide, Captain Sparchy, and Lieutenant Spectre.

What is your favorite simulator?
Dangerous Waters, by far!

What is your favorite platform? favorite map?
Any 688i sub, any map with biologicals and deep water. I enjoy listening to the whales while I'm hunting.

I see you have 16 dives/flights, could you briefly tell me about one?
Well I enjoy almost any dive, but the one that has stuck with me is the dive with Admiral ClearRide where he showed me how to use 2 UUVs (Unmanned Underwater Vehicle) to track any inbound hostile, as well as Flank UUV launches which improved my simulation experience.

What is one of the coolest strategies you've used?
Using a 2vs2 mission against Captain Sparchy I noticed how he fired torpedoes over his shoulder (OTS Shot) so I mimicked this with the additive of a FLANK UUV Launch.

What are some things you like about the SeaWolves?
Military like structure, almost always someone who wants to go for a dive, and experienced training officers

What is something you would like to see changed?
Nothing that I can see so far.

What are some of your goals with the SeaWolves?
Eventually make Admiral, mostly dive a lot and practice team dives.
